Howard has been married to the former Goldie M. Bertsch since Nov 16, 1941 (Arlington, Virginia). He graduated from the University of Illinois in 1939 and was a mechanical engineer. He was employed with the Dept of the Navy during WW II working with submarines. He later worked in Fort Wayne, IN at the Bowser Corp & Wayne Pump.

Mike was born in Fort Wayne and was raised in Wells County just East of Lancaster School. He graduated in 1967 from Lancaster High School and later from St Francis College (1971) with a degree in Business & Psychology. He then later received a computer Science studies from Ivy Tech.
