Wilma May Schmidt, 91, of Bluffton, died at 5:20 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 13, 2010, at Meadowvale Health and Rehabilitation. Mrs. Schmidt was born in Delaware County on May 23, 1918, to Hudson and Mary (McCormick) Penrod. She married James Russel Schmidt in Muncie on Dec. 12 1936; he preceded her in death on March 25, 1978. Mrs. Schmidt was formerly a caretaker at the 4-H Park for 15 years. She attended Murray Missionary Church and was a member of the Women's Auxiliary at Wells Community Hospital for 25 years. Surviving relatives include two sons, Dan J. (Georgia) Schmidt of Fort Wayne and Richard L. (Suzette) Schmidt of Huntley, Ill.; four grandchildren, Mark Schmidt, Cindy Muenster, Stacey Holloway and Todd Schmidt; and eight great-grandchildren. Mrs. Schmidt was also preceded in death by three brothers, Stephen Penrod, Loyde Penrod, and John Penrod. Calling hours will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Goodwin Memorial Chapel, 3220E Ind. 124, Bluffton. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with Pastor Mike Gilbert officiating. Burial will be at Elm Grove Cemetery in Bluffton. Preferred memorials are to the charity of the donor's choice.
