William Q. Jeffers, 60, Bluffton, died at 8:20 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 29, 2008, at his home. Mr. Jeffers worked 31 years for General Motors, retiring in 2005. He also drove a truck for Imel Motors. He was a 1966 graduate of West Salem (Wis.) High School and served in the Army from 1969 to 1971. He was a member of the United Auto Workers. He was a member of the Holy Scripture Evangelical Lutheran Church in Fort Wayne, where he previously served as a trustee and as vice president of the church council. He raced cars at the Baer Field and Montpelier race tracks and also raced at tracks in LaCrosse and Jefferson, Wis. He was born May 17, 1948, in LaCrosse, Wis., to Quentin and Olive Sainsbury Jeffers. He married Karen Helke Jan. 25, 1969, in Stoddard, Wis. His wife survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Ann Leyman of Keystone and Kristine (Edward) Pharoah of Huntington; six grandchildren; four brothers, Michael Jeffers of Cottage Grove, Wis., James Jeffers of West Salem, Wis., Charles Jeffers of Bangor, Wis., and Robert Jeffers of Mequon, Wis.; and four sisters, Kathleen Crawford of Janesville, Wis., Patricia Marshall of Holmen, Wis., Margaret Sanders of Melrose, Wis., and Judith Gamboa of Franklin, Wis. Calling will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Goodwin Memorial Chapel. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at the Holy Scripture Evangelical Lutheran Church, 8811 Kinnerk Road, Fort Wayne. Burial will be at the Fairview Cemetery, Bluffton. Preferred memorials are to Family Hospice and Palliative Care and to the Holy Scripture Evangelical Lutheran Church
