Wayne E. Heiniger, 88, formerly of rural Craigville, died at 12:55 p.m. Tuesday, March 29, 2011, at River Terrace Estates. Mr. Heiniger was born in Vera Cruz on Aug. 30, 1922, to Fred and Clella (Stahl) Heiniger. He married Phyllis N. Clark in Bluffton on Nov. 30, 1947; she survives. A 1940 graduate of Bluffton High School, Mr. Heiniger served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II and was a member of American Legion Post 111. He worked at Franklin Electric for 34 years, retiring in 1986, and was also a farmer. He was a member of the First Reformed Church of Bluffton. Other surviving relatives include three sons, Bruce (Nancy) Heiniger of LaOtto, Dale (Dianna) Heiniger of Bluffton, and Steve (Karen) Heiniger of Liberty Center; a daughter, Cindy (Carl) Kneuve of New Haven; a sister, Esther Whonsetler of Hicksville, Ohio; and five grandchildren, four step grandchildren, 10 step great-grandchildren, and one step great-great-grandchild. Calling hours will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday, March 31, at the Goodwin Memorial Chapel in Bluffton. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the funeral home with Dr. Bryson E. Bell officiating. Burial is at Six Mile Cemetery, in Bluffton. Preferred memorials are to the First Reformed Church.
