Walter B. Valentine, 83, of Bluffton, died at 6:35 p.m. Tuesday, June 15, 2010, at Meadowvale Care and Rehabilitation Center. Mr. Valentine was born in Circleville, Ohio on July 22, 1926, to George and Esther (Murray) Valentine. He married Wilma Marshall in Bluffton on Feb. 21, 1998; she survives. Mr. Valentine served in the U.S. Army from 1945 to 1946. He worked at Corning Glass and was also a retired janitor for Northern Wells Community Schools. He was a member of the Bluffton Church of God and American Legion Post 111. He loved music and enjoyed singing. Other surviving relatives include two step sons, Robin Brock of Hartford City and Ray Brock of Denver, Colo.; seven grandchildren, six step grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and four step great-grandchildren. Mr. Valentine was also preceded in death by his previous wife, Alma Blankenship; two sons, Walter "Steven" Valentine and Larry W. Valentine; one step son, Ricky DeWayne; and one brother, George Valentine. Calling hours will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday, June 17, and from 9:30 a.m. Friday, June 18, at the Goodwin Memorial Chapel in Bluffton. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, at the funeral home with the Rev. Don Marlowe officiating. Burial is at I.O.O.F. Cemetery, in Pennville, with American Legion Post 111 conducting graveside services. Preferred memorials are to the Meadowvale Care and Rehabilitation Center.
