Virginia L. Hower, 85, of Bluffton, died at 9 p.m. Friday, Nov. 25, 2011, at Bluffton Regional Medical Center. Mrs. Hower was born in Ossian on Jan. 18, 1926, to John "Frank" and Mary C. (Davis) Helblig. She married Joseph Carl Hower in Wells County on Dec. 14, 1944; he preceded her in death on Dec. 27, 1964. Surviving relatives include seven daughters, Loretta Drew of New Haven, Connie (Pat Jr.) Durham of Bluffton, Karen (Rob) Trenten of Bluffton, Rosie Hower of Decatur, Lora (Steve) Esterhia of Bluffton, Patti Hower of Bluffton, Brycella (Allen) Roth of New Haven; one son, Brice (Tess) Hower of Bluffton; two sisters, Katie Ricken of Madisonville, Tenn., and Lola Myers of Bluffton; two brothers, John N. Helblig of Decatur and Norman (Betty) Helblig of Columbus, S.C.; and 16 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Mrs. Hower was also preceded in death by two sons, Joseph Allen Hower and Terry Lynn Hower; two sisters, Geraldine Biberstein and Erma Blair; and five brothers, Earl Davis, Kenny Helblig, Ronnie Helblig, Sherman Helblig and Wilbur Helblig. Calling hours will be from noon to 4 p.m. Wednesday at the Goodwin Memorial Chapel in Bluffton. Funeral services will be at 4 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be at the Oaklawn Cemetery in Ossian at a later date.
