Virgil S. Stubblefield, 79, Bluffton, died at 3:10 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2012 at Bluffton Regional Medical Center. Born on Sept. 16, 1932, in Cameron County, Texas, to Francis Edward and Lou Vena (Coots) Stubblefield, he married Doris Mae Maxwell on Nov. 3, 2007, in Chicago; she survives. Mr. Stubblefield served in the U.S. Army from 1950 to 1953 and was a member of the American Legion Post 7. He was a Walmart greeter, worked in maintenance at the Sun Oil Co., was the owner of a dry cleaning business and several Dairy Queen franchises. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Other survivors include four stepchildren, Christopher (Erica) Brocksmith of Quincy, Ill., Donald (Jolene) Brocksmith of Pekin, Ill., James (Ginny) Brocksmith of Milwaukee, Wisc., and Robyn (Timothy) Lyons of Corpus Cristie, Texas; a brother, George Edward (Bertie) Stubblefield of Caddo Gap, Ark.; a sister, Jessie Lee Crites of Sandia, Texas; 13 grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sisters and one grandchild. Calling hours will be Monday, January 16, 2012, from 4 to 8 p.m., at Goodwin Memorial Chapel in Bluffton. Services will be held Tuesday, January 17, at 10:30 a.m., at Goodwin Memorial Chapel with Pastor Jim Steele officiating. A graveside service and burial will be held Tuesday, January 17, at 1:00 p.m., at Greenlawn Cemetery in Fort Wayne with military graveside rites provided by the American Legion. Preferred memorials are to the Christian Care Retirement Community or the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
