Obituary

Thomas L. "Tom" Hockenberry, 79, of Fort Wayne, passed away at 11:43 p.m. Thursday, April 25, 2013, at the Visiting Nurse & Hospice Home. Born in Bluffton Aug. 11, 1933, to William J. and Emma I. (Jones) Hockenberry, he married Rosalee Kirkwood on Nov. 3, 1953, in Fort Wayne; she survives. He attended Bluffton High School and served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1951 to 1954 in Korea and again from 1964 to 1966 in Vietnam. He was a truck driver, retiring after 40 years, spending the last 12 of those years driving for Kroger. He was a member of the American Legion Post 241 of Fort Wayne. Tom was also a member of the Fort Wayne Marine Corps League; he had a passion for music and NASCAR. Other survivors include three sons, Randy Hockenberry of Fort Wayne, Steve (Sharon) Hockenberry of Hoagland and Tom (Angie) Hockenberry of Monroeville; three daughters, Linda (Jim) Minch of Geneva, Karen (Jim) Burgin of Fort Wayne, and Sheryl (John) Slagle of Bluffton; a daughter-in-law, Brenda Hockenberry of Decatur; a sister, Linda (Howard) Reed of Reiffsburg; 17 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and four great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Bill Hockenberry; a sister, Bonnie Royer; and a brother, Richard Hockenberry. Services will be held Monday, April 29, at 3 p.m. at Goodwin-Cale & Harnish Memorial Chapel with Pastor Andrew Lyons officiating. Calling hours there are Sunday from 1 to 7 p.m. and Monday for one hour prior to the services. Burial will be in Horeb Cemetery. The Bluffton American Legion Post 111, in conjunction with the United States Marine Corps Honor Guard, will perform military graveside rites. Preferred memorials are to the Visiting Nurse & Hospice Home in Fort Wayne.
