Thomas L. "Tom" Garrett, 90, passed away Saturday morning, Sept. 11, 2021, at his residence in Bluffton, following an extended illness.
Tom was born in Bluffton on Dec. 4, 1930, to Alonso B. and Frances E.W. (Shafer) Garrett, both parents preceded him in death. He married Joyce A. (Dillon) in Bluffton on March 5, 1960, she survives in Bluffton,
He was a 1948 graduate of Bluffton High School and attended Grace Baptist Church in Bluffton. Tom served as State Highway Department Superintendent for seven years, served as a sports official for many years, owner of Garrett's Motor Sales in Bluffton and worked for several local car dealerships as a car salesman, retiring at age 84.
Tom served in the Indiana National Guard, was an avid New York Yankee's fan, enjoyed gardening and attending to flowers around their home, avid car lover, attending grandchildren's sporting events, most of all, providing and taking care of his family.
In addition to his wife, Tom is survived by three son's; Scott (Lee Ann) Garrett of Warren, Tim (Deb) Garrett of Bluffton and Brett (Jodi) Garrett of Noblesville, IN., eleven grandchildren and 14 great- grandchildren.
Aside from his parents, Tom was preceded in death by four brothers; Frank, Robert, William "Bill" and Richard "Dick" Garrett, three sisters; Betty Lou Garrett, Suzanne Commers and Betsy N. Noe.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 14, 2021, from 2:00 until 8:00 PM at Goodwin – Cale & Harnish Memorial Chapel in Bluffton. Services will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 15, 2021, at 10:30 AM, at the funeral home, with one hour of visitation prior to the service. Rev. Douglas McClure will officiate. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Bluffton.
Memorial contributions may be made to Visiting Nurse and Hospice of Berne, IN.
