Sylvia Etta Bertsch, 92, of Bluffton, passed away Saturday afternoon, August 8, 2015, at Bluffton Regional Medical Center, in Bluffton. Sylvia was born September 3, 1922 in Adams County to George and Ida (Biberstein) Hirshey. She married Oscar E. Bertsch in Adams County on February 14, 1942, he survives in Bluffton, they shared 73 1/2 years in marriage together. She was a member of the Apostolic Christian Church. Sylvia worked at General Electric in the early 1940's during war time. She also worked at the Dutch Mill in Bluffton baking pies and cookies, she also worked at the Wells County Library and several years at the Vera Cruz Opportunity School. She took joy in painting, working in her flower gardens at her home and cooking for her family and entertaining. She is survived by her husband Oscar E. Bertsch, one daughter, Nancy (Bill) Kunz of Columbia City, IN; three sons, James (Christy) Bertsch, Stan (Cindy) Bertsch, and Mike (Carmon) Bertsch all of Decatur, IN; 15 grandchildren and 35 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by 4 sisters and 5 brothers, along with a grandson Zachary Bertsch in 2013. Service will be held at 10:30 AM, Tuesday, August 11, 2015, at the Apostolic Christian Church East with Ryan Bertsch and Ron Kipfer officiating. Calling hours are from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM Monday, August 10, at Goodwin - Cale & Harnish Memorial Chapel in Bluffton and one hour prior to the service Tuesday at the church. Burial will be in the Apostolic Christian Cemetery in Adams County. Memorials can be made to Cancer Redemption Legacy Fund for Loving Shepherd Ministries or Forgotten Children.
