Steven Lee Mikel, 66, rural Poneto, passed away at 11:05 p.m. Friday, May 2, 2014 at the Bluffton Regional Medical Center. Born in Westville, Ill. on Sept. 30, 1947 to Steve and Marjorie (Mullins) Mikel, he retired in 2010 after 35 years of service at Franklin Electric and Bluffton Motor Works. A graduate of S.W. (Jackson) High School in 1965, he served in the National Guard and was involved with the Historic Old Fort war reenactments and rendezvous. He enjoyed fishing and hunting, his Canadian fishing trips; loved the outdoors, fishing with his grandchildren and mushroom hunting in the springtime. He is survived by two daughters, Stephanie J. (Adam) Grapengeter, Bluffton, and Pearl A. (Michael) Klauk, of Mississippi; a son, Mike A. (Christina) Mikel of Ligonier; two brothers, Dennis Mikel of Portland, and Gary Mikel of Montpelier; a half-sister, Malona Kanedy, of Cayuga; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Rick and Ronnie Mikel. Services will be held Thursday, May 8 at 10 a.m. at the Goodwin-Cale & Harnish Memorial Chapel, with Pastor Lenny Stringer officiating. Calling hours there are Wednesday from 1 to 8 p.m. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Warren. Preferred memorials are to Family LifeCare, Berne and the Steve Kelly Cancer Relief Foundation.
