Obituary

Steven “Steve” W. Gray, 70, of Berne, passed away Monday morning, April 27, 2026, at Parkview Regional Hospital in Fort Wayne.

Steve was born in Bluffton on November 30, 1955, to Marvin and Loretta (Fox) Gray. He married Carol A. (Lydy) Velasquez in Orange County, OH, on November 8, 1985; she survives.

Steve worked at Kitco in Bluffton for 28 years and then Red Gold in Geneva for several more years. He then worked as a delivery person for O’Reilly Auto Parts in Decatur and Berne, until retiring due to health issues. He attended The Bridge Community Church in Berne and loved to stay busy, especially gardening and working in his yard.

In addition to his wife of 40 years, Steve is survived by two sons, Darrell Velasquez Jr. of Warsaw and Shawn (Missy) Velasquez of Bluffton; a daughter, Karie Velasquez of Bluffton; six grandchildren, Jeff, Natthan, and Leah Velasquez, Myles Velasquez, and Layne and Kale Seslar; a great-grandson, Nikolai Riley; a sister, Virginia (Steve) Smith of Carlisle, KY; and two brothers, Mark (Terri) Gray of Arizona and Patrick (Penny) Gray of Michigan.

Aside from his parents, Steve was preceded in death by a son, Shannon Gray.

A graveside service will be held on Monday, May 4, 2026, at 3:30 PM, at Fairview Cemetery in Bluffton, officiated by Pastor Steve Smith. Goodwin – Harnish Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Bluffton has been entrusted with the arrangements.
