Ruth Edna Bradley, 85, of Bluffton, passed away surrounded by her children, Friday afternoon, January 2, 2015, at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne. Born on December 27, 1929, in Elizabethtown, IN to Clarence W. and Miriam (Parker) Newsom, Ruth graduated as salutatorian at Columbus High School and received an academic scholarship to Earlham College where she graduated in 1952. As a dietetic intern at Indiana University in Indianapolis, she met Louis F. Bradley who was in medical school and they married on June 25th, 1955. With her love and devotion, Dr. Bradley, 91, survives. Ruth's passions were her faith, family and career. Ruth was an active member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church. Her quiet faith was reflected to all who knew her. Her family is comforted that she received the Last Rites administered by Father Pius N. Ilechukwu. Her ceaseless loyalty and nurturing was evident in her devotion to Louis and her children and now grandchildren. She shared her love of books, cooking and nutrition, vegetable and flower gardeningattaining master gardener status. She had a classic style and flair for decorating. Ruth passed on her work ethic, value of higher education, and love of life-long learning to all her children. She only recently retired from a long career as a registered dietician committed to providing quality, healthier food to retirement communities. Her spirit is carried on in five daughters, Carol Bradley (Teresa Favuzzi) of Sacramento, CA; Charlotte Abel (Peter) of Castleton, VA; Jean Bradley of Chicago, IL; Alice Bradley-Harmon (Daniel) of Richardson, TX; and Emily Bradley (Hans Detlefsen) of Chicago, IL; one son, Donald Bradley (Mimi) of Hinsdale, IL; five grandchildren, Evan Christian Bradley Harmon, Alec Mikeal Bradley Harmon, Cullen McGinnis Bradley, Leah Adeline Bradley, and Eleanor B Detlefsen; and one sister, Doris Connor, of Columbus, IN. Ruth was preceded in death by a son, John Edward Bradley. After his passing, she carried on his love of Indiana University athletics. Visitation will be Thursday, January 8, 2015, from 3 p.m. - 8 p.m. beginning with a Rosary Service at 3 p.m. at Goodwin-Cale & Harnish Memorial Chapel, 3220 East State Road 124, Bluffton, IN. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Bluffton, with one hour of visitation prior to the service. Fr. Pius Ilechukwu will be officiating. Burial will be at Six Mile Cemetery in Bluffton.
