Obituary

Roy C. Meyer, 90, of Monroeville,died at 12:50 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 25, 2012, at The Village of Heritage. Mr. Meyer was born in Vera Cruz on April 19, 1921, to Charles and Esther Yager. He married Evelyn Mae Rauch in Vera Cruz on April 10, 1944; she survives. Mr. Meyer fought in the European Theater with the 4th Division of the U.S. Army during World War II, and was awarded four Bronze Stars. He worked for Panhandle Eastern Pipeline for 21 years, retiring in 1984. He was a member of Disabled American Veterans Chapter 13, VFW Post 10205, and American Legion Post 420. He was also a member of East Liberty United Methodist Church. Other surviving relatives include three sons, Michael R. Shirley) Meyer of Hoagland, Timothy W. (Debbie) Meyer of Fort Wayne and Thomas C. Meyer of Monroeville; a daughter, Rebecca Ann (Bill) Rhodes of Summerville, S.C.; a sister, Joyce Frantz of Liberty Center;and 12 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. Mr. Meyer was preceded in death by three sisters, Pauline Moser, Ruth Dentel and Dorothy Richmond. Calling hours will be from 1 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 29, and from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 30, at the Goodwin Memorial Chapel in Bluffton. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, at the funeral home with Pastor Barry McCune officiating. Burial, with military graveside rites performed, is at Six Mile Cemetery. Preferred memorials are to the East Liberty United Methodist Church or the American Heart Association.
