Obituary

Ronald T. Burns, age 86, of Poneto, passed away Friday morning, Nov. 13, 2020, at Bluffton Regional Medical Center.

Ron was born in Browns Valley, MN, on Sept. 17, 1934, to Edmund T. and Susan (Musseter) Burns.  He married Bonnie J. Butler at the St. Margaret Catholic Church in Montpelier on Jan. 28, 1956; she survives.

Ron served in the United States Army from 1957 until 1959 and was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Bluffton.  He was a long-time farmer and also worked at S.S. Kresge (later called Kmart) Distribution Center for 37 years, retiring in 1992.

In addition to his wife, Ron is survived by two daughters, Beverly (Brad) Meusburger of Centerville, OH, and Deborah (Bob) Dale of Hopkins, MI; two sons, Donald T. Burns and Michael T. Burns, both of Poneto; two brothers, Virgil (June) Burns of Ossian and Edmund (Cheryl) Burns of Isle of Palms, SC; and one granddaughter, Christa M. (Bill) VerBerkmoes.

In addition to his parents, Ron was preceded in death by a brother, Merlin Burns; and a sister-in-law, Terry Burns.

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic and health restrictions in our community, a private Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Bluffton with Fr. David Violi officiating.  Burial will be at Elm Grove Cemetery in Bluffton with military rites conducted by the United States Army.  The mass can be viewed live online via the church's website, www.stjosephchurchbluffton.org , at 11:00 AM, on Friday, Nov. 27, 2020.

Goodwin – Cale & Harnish Memorial Chapel in Bluffton has been entrusted with the arrangements.

In lieu of floral tributes and gifts, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church.
