Obituary

Robert D. Walburn, 88, of Bluffton, passed away at 12:26 p.m. Monday, Feb. 13, 2012, at the Swiss Village in Berne. Mr. Walburn was a farmer. He was a 1941 graduate of Bluffton High School and was a member of the First Reformed Church of Bluffton. He was a member of the 4-H Association and enjoyed bowling. He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving in the European Theater and receiving two Bronze Stars. Born Oct. 13, 1923, in Bluffton, to Ralph D. Walburn and Chella Lockwood Walburn, he married Martha Heller Nov. 27, 1949, in Bluffton; his wife preceded him in death Feb. 12, 1992. Survivors include three sons, Jim (Lora) Walburn of Bluffton, David (Tori) Walburn of Fort Wayne, and Rich Walburn of Ossian; three daughters, Becky (Robert) Schwartz and Connie (Dr. Mike) Graham, both of Bluffton, and Carol (Tim) Timmons of Monroe; 18 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Roger (Marcia) Walburn and Ronald (Rochelle) Walburn, both of Bluffton; and a sister-in-law, Carol McCune of Decatur. A grandson preceded him in death. Calling will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Goodwin Memorial Chapel. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Goodwin Memorial Chapel with Tim Timmons officiating. Burial will be at the Six Mile Cemetery. The U.S. Army and members of American Legion Post 111 will be in charge of graveside rites. Preferred memorials are to the 4-H Association or to the American Cancer Society for breast cancer awareness.
