Robert K. McFarren, 84, of Bluffton, died at 5:25 a.m. Thursday, June 18, 2009, at the Bluffton Regional Medical Center. Mr. McFarren was born in Poneto on Dec. 16, 1924 to Clarence E. and Mamie L. Yeager McFarren. He married arcelle Sleppy in Geneva on June 7, 1947; his wife preceded him in death on Jan. 5, 2000. Mr. McFarren served in the U.S. Navy from 1943 to 1946 and was a member of Montpelier American Legion Post 156. He retired from Zollner Corporation after 30 years' service, and also worked for 10 years at Lynn-Souers Furniture. He was a member of Prairie Church. Surviving relatives include one daughter, Connie (Donald) Mittlestedt of Bluffton; five grandchildren, Robert (Christa) Mittlestedt, Matthew (Connie) Mittlestedt, Lesia (Dick) Wood, Mike Mittlestedt and Christina Marie Mittlestedt, all of Bluffton; and two great-grandsons and five great-granddaughters. Calling hours will be from 1 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Goodwin Memorial Chapel in Bluffton. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home with the Rev. Douglas McClure officiating. Burial will be at the Fairview Cemetery in Bluffton. Military graveside rites will be conducted at the cemetery. Preferred memorials are to the Family Hospice and Palliative Care of Northeast Indiana.
