Dick was an avid golfer and enjoyed cooking.  He loved Penn State football and also followed all of the University of Tennessee sports teams.  He was also a long-time member of the Fort Wayne Seventh-day Adventist Church.

Survivors include three children, Ashley (Austin) Long of Indianapolis, Greg (Nikole) Johnston of Hollidaysburg, PA, and Richard Johnston Jr. of Hollidaysburg, PA; four grandchildren; and a brother, Bob (Judy) Johnston of Mint Hill, NC.
