Richard E. "Dick" Haiflich, 89, of Bluffton, died at 3:45 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 25, 2011, at the Meadowvale Care Center in Bluffton. Mr. Haiflich was a 1940 graduate of East Union High School and a 1966 graduate of Rydel College. He was employed at Graden's Recapping and Supply, where he was known as "Farmer Dick," and was also engaged in farming. He was a member of the Liberty Center United Methodist Church. Mr. Haiflich was born Aug. 5, 1922, in Huntington County, to John Haiflich and Mayretha Beaber Haiflich. He married Dorma M. Hoopingarner March 10, 1945, at Zanesville; his wife survives. Also surviving are his children, Rev. Stevan (Lynette) Haiflich of Chicago and Karen Reinhard of Bluffton; three grandchildren, Phil Haiflich, Andy Haiflich, and Shawn Reinhard; nine great-grandchildren; and a brother, Thomas (Nancy) Haiflich of Palmyra, Pa. He was preceded in death by his parents and by a sister, Laura May McAfee. Calling will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Goodwin Memorial Chapel, where services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday with Pastor Devin Cook officiating. Burial will be at the Mossburg Center near Liberty Center. Preferred memorials are to the Liberty Center United Methodist Church or to the Wells County Food Bank.
