Rex E. Douglass, 89, of Markle, passed away Monday afternoon, Feb. 22, 2021, at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne.
Rex was born in Grant County on Oct. 4, 1931, to Howard and Bethina (Pence) Douglass. He married Marilyn Harnish in Bluffton on Apr. 12, 1952; she survives.
A 1949 graduate of Union Center High School, Rex served in the United States Army from 1954 until 1956. He was a lifelong farmer in Wells County and was a member of Markle United Methodist Church. He also served on the Federal Land Bank board of directors for many years. Rex was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, and especially enjoyed attending his grandchildren's sporting events and other activities.
In addition to his wife, Rex is survived by two sons, Philip (Marcia) Douglass of Muncie, and Steven (Leslie) Douglass of Markle; two daughters, Patricia (Tim) Baker of Ossian, and Susan (Joe) Costa of Markle; along with 12 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Aside from his parents, Rex was preceded in death by a sister, Clara Mae Fausz.
Private family services are being held at Goodwin – Cale & Harnish Memorial Chapel in Bluffton, officiated by Pastor Dan Hyer. The funeral service will be available to watch live via a Facebook Live link, which will be posted at 10:00 AM, on Wednesday, Mar. 3, 2021, at the top of this obituary page. Burial will follow at Hoverstock Cemetery in Zanesville.
