Phyllis Joan Swartz, 83, Bluffton, died Wednesday, May 15, 2013, at Christian Care Retirement. She was born May 21, 1929, in Bluffton, to Albert "Bert" and Nellie (Heiniger) Moser. She married Virgil Swartz March 21, 1948, in Bluffton; he preceded her in death. She graduated with her Bachelor's degree in 1973 from Indiana University, where she later received her Master's. She retired from Eastside Elementary School as a second grade teacher after a 22-year career. She previously taught at Popular Grove, until it closed. She was a life-long member of Epworth United Methodist Church, where she was very active. Throughout the years she taught Junior Church, Sunday School and Vacation Bible School classes. She was a member of the United Methodist Women and served on the Board of Trustees. Early in her life she worked at Franklin Electric and then attended Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne when her children went to school. Survivors include a son, Don (Debra) Swartz of Keystone; two daughters, Becky (Gary) Yahnke of Fort Wayne, and Linda (Don) Reeb of Fort Wayne; a sister, Betty (Moser) Mann of Bluffton; a brother, Franklin "Frank" (Norma) Moser of Bluffton; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by a brother, Kenneth "Kenny" Moser. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Goodwin-Cale & Harnish Memorial Chapel with Rev. Dick Fredricks and Tony Garton officiating. Visitation will be Friday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the funeral home and Saturday one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Six-Mile Cemetery.
