Phyllis I. Kummer, 89, of Bluffton, died at 7:05 p.m. Saturday, March 13, 2010, at Bluffton Regional Medical Center. Born Dec. 18, 1920, in Lemons, Mo., to Layton and Ethel Sanford High, she married Earl E. Kummer June 14, 1941 in Fort Wayne. He preceded her in death on July 4, 2004. She was the oldest member of the First Church of the Nazarene and had worked as a receptionist at State Farm Insurance. She also had worked at Montgomery Ward as a sales clerk. Survivors include two sons, Richard (Dianne) Kummer, Bluffton, and Terry (MaryAnn) Kummer, Fort Wayne, and five grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Her brother, Paul High, preceded her in death. Calling from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday will be at Goodwin Memorial Chapel. Calling will also be held one hour prior to services at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the First Church of the Nazarene. Pastor Tim Sheets will officiate and burial will follow at Elm Grove Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association or the American Heart Association.
