Obituary

Phyllis K. Johnson, 89, of Ossian, passed away Saturday morning, October 25, 2014, at Ossian Health and Rehabilitation Center. Born on February 22, 1925, in Zanesville, IN, to Tom and Murlie (Walker) Chaney, she married Nolan G. Johnson on June 30, 1945 at the Zanesville United Brethren Church in Zanesville, IN; he preceded her in death in April of 1997. Phyllis graduated from Lafayette High School and was a farmer's wife. She worked at Gaskill's Grocery Store for many years until 1962, when she and her family moved to Ossian and purchased and then operated the Johnson Service Stations, for eight years. From that point forward, Phyllis was a housewife and also assisted her husband in renting out apartments. She was a member of the Zanesville United Brethren Church. Surivivors include one son, Denny D. (Mary) Johnson of Bluffton; a daughter-in-law, Judy Johnson of Hurricane Mills, TN; along with six grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren. Aside from her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Terry G. Johnson, a sister, Mary Schenkel, and two brothers, Ked and Jim Chaney. A memorial service for Phyllis will be held on Wednesday, October 29, 2014, at 3:00 P.M. at the Zanesville United in Brethren Church. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Pastor Tom Datema and Rev. Larry Taylor will be officiating. Burial will be at Oaklawn Cemetery in Ossian at a later date. Goodwin - Cale & Harnish Memorial Chapel in Bluffton has been entrusted with the arrangements. Memorial contributions may be given to Zanesville United Brethren Church or Camp Cotubic Youth Camp and Retreat Center.
