Nova L. Kipfer, 94, of Bluffton, passed away peacefully with her family at her side at 6:12 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 10, 2011, at Christian Care Retirement Community. Mrs. Kipfer was born on Sept. 6, 1917, in Wells County to Fred and Mary (Aeschliman) Fiechter. She married Walter W. Steffen; he preceded her in death in April 1950. She married Carl H. Kipfer in Nov. of 1977 in Wells County; he preceded her in death on Aug. 18, 1990. Mrs. Kipfer attended Lancaster High School. She and her first husband, Walter, owned the Firestone Store in Portland from 1948 to 1953. She was also an accountant with Brooks McCartney Accounting, Emshwiller and Emshwiller, and Rigby Accounting. She was a member of the Apostolic Christian Church, and for over 30 years she devoted much of her time with the Apostolic Christian Charity Fund. She spent her entire life serving others. Surviving relatives include one son, Walt W. Steffen of Avilla; one stepson, Ron (Linda) Kipfer of Bluffton; two stepdaughters, Bev (Alan) Hodel of Tequesta, Fla., and Joleen (Dave) Sinn of Berne; two brothers, Richard (Wava) Fiechter of Craigville and Glen Fiechter of Tocsin; four grandchildren, 13 step-grandchildren and seven step-great-grandchildren. Mrs. Kipfer was also preceded in death by three brothers, Ralph, Walter and Lloyd Fiechter; and one sister, Lula Moser. Calling hours will be from noon to 8 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 12, at the Goodwin Memorial Chapel and from 2 to 3 p.m. Sunday, at the Apostolic Christian Church East. Funeral services will take place at 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 13, at the church with John Reinhard and Tim Drayer officiating. Burial will follow at the Apostolic Christian Cemetery. Preferred memorials are to Christian Care Retirement Community or the Apostolic Christian Charity Fund.
