Nila G. Schlagenhauf, 100, a resident of the Christian Care Retirement Community, died there at 7:20 a.m. Friday, June 4, 2010. Mrs. Schlagenhauf was a housewife and was also a retail clerk at J.C. Penney before her retirement. She was a 1928 graduate of Petroleum High School and was a member of the Nottingham Church. She was born Dec. 8, 1909, in Wells County, to Ira C. Gibson and Pearl Irey Gibson. She married Dale E. Schlagenhauf April 20, 1930, in Petroleum; her husband died March 31, 1986. Survivors include three daughters, Marilyn Okey and Shirley Rosinski (Earl Brickley), both of Bluffton, and Jeanie (George) Elbel of Cincinnati, Ohio, and five grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and seven great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her foster parents, Jacob F. Yarger and Luella O'Dell Yarger, and a brother, Edwin Gibson. Calling will be from noon to 6 p.m. Sunday at the Goodwin Memorial Chapel. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Goodwin Memorial Chapel with Pastor David Stalker officiating. Burial will be at the Old Salem Cemetery. Preferred memorials are to the Nottingham Church or to the Christian Care Retirement Community.
