Nicholas "Niles" Neuenschwander, age 40, of rural Ossian, passed away on Friday, Feb. 5, 2021.

Nick was born in Bluffton on Dec. 28, 1980, to Donald L. and Judith A. (Baker) Neuenschwander.  His mother survives in Bluffton.

A 1999 graduate of Norwell High School, Nick later received his associate and bachelor's degrees in criminal justice from IPFW.  After high school, he served in the United States Air Force as a Technical Sergeant from 1999 until 2006, during Operation Enduring Freedom.

Nick worked as a confinement officer at the Federal Correctional Institution, Terre Haute and was currently working as a Field Examiner for over the past ten years for the Department of Veterans Affairs.  He attended Life Community Church in Huntington and was a member of the American Legion Post 241 of Waynedale and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.  He was an avid Chicago Bears fan and in his free time, he enjoyed hunting and fishing, and especially spending time with his friends.

In addition to his mother, Nick is survived by a brother, Shane L. (Traci) Neuenschwander of Markle; along with two nephews and a niece, Kline, Korben, and Magnolia Neuenschwander.

He was preceded in death by his father, Donald L. Neuenschwander.

Public visitation will be on Tuesday, Feb. 9, 2021, from 10:00 AM until 2:00 PM, at Goodwin – Cale & Harnish Memorial Chapel in Bluffton, followed immediately by a funeral service at 2:00 PM, at the funeral home.  Pastor Mike Hill will officiate.  Military rites will be conducted by the American Legion Post 241 of Waynedale in conjunction with the United States Air Force Honor Guard.  Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Bluffton.

The funeral service will be available to watch live via a Facebook Live link, which will be posted immediately before 2:00 PM on Tuesday at the top of this obituary page.

Visitors are required to wear masks during the visitation and funeral service at the funeral home.  We appreciate your understanding and patience as we currently are only allowed a certain number of visitors in the funeral home at one time.
