Morris "Mo" Harnish, age 80, of Bluffton, passed away Thursday evening, May 25, 2017, at Venice Regional Bayfront Health Hospital in Venice, FL.
Born on July 25, 1936, in Wells County, to Leroy and Freda (Fishbaugh) Harnish, Mo married Kay Robbins in Bluffton on July 20, 1958; she survives.
A 1954 graduate of Bluffton High School, Mo then served in the United States Army from 1954 until his honorable discharge in 1956. He later obtained a bachelor's degree from Franklin College, graduating in 1960, where he was a member of the baseball team.
Mo was a lifelong farmer in Wells County and a member of the First United Methodist Church in Bluffton, Bluffton Elks Lodge 796, and past member of the Bluffton Lions Club. For many years, Mo and Kay would spend the winter months in Venice, FL, and in his free time he enjoyed golfing.
In addition to his wife of almost 60 years, Mo is survived by two daughters, Ginny A. (Steve) Stocker of Dover, OH, and Caryn S. Harnish of Bluffton; two sons, Richard D. "Rick" (Sandi) Harnish of Bluffton, and David L. (Ellen) Harnish of Millersburg, OH; seven grandchildren, Kristen Stocker Holder (husband David) of Winston Salem, NC, Haley Harnish Mills (husband Richard) of Peoria, IL, David M. Stocker of Telluride, CO, Kelsey Harnish Snyder (husband Chris) of Fort Wayne, Brennan A. Harnish of Charlotte, NC, Emily G. Harnish of Chicago, IL, and Brady A. Harnish of Tampa, FL; four great-grandchildren, Virginia E. "Ellie" Holder and Amelia J. "Mia" Holder, both of Winston Salem, NC, and Aiden C. Snyder and Cohen S. Snyder, both of Fort Wayne; and a sister, Marilyn (Rex) Douglass of Markle.
Friends and family are welcome to gather on Saturday, June 17, 2017, from 9:00 until 11:30 AM, at Goodwin – Cale & Harnish Memorial Chapel in Bluffton. A memorial service to celebrate Mo's life will be held immediately following visitation at 11:30 AM on Saturday, at the funeral home, with Tony Garton officiating. Military rites will follow the service, provided by the United States Army Honor Guard in conjunction with the American Legion Post 111 of Bluffton. Private burial will be at Elm Grove Cemetery in Bluffton.
Memorial contributions may be given to the Bluffton Rivergreenway Preservation Fund, c/o the Wells County Foundation.
