Minnie E. Aschliman, 99, of Bluffton, went to be with the Lord at 8:05 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 5, 2010, at Christian Care Retirement Community. Minnie was born in Adams County on March 17, 1911 to Jehu W. and Lydia (Maller) Gerber, the third eldest of 16 children. She married Homer A. Aschliman in Bluffton on March 17, 1946; he preceded her in death on April 26, 2002. Minnie was a housewife and also helped Homer farm. She was a Sunday School teacher for over 20 years and was like a grandma to all of her nieces and nephews, along with many other children. Minnie was a prayer warrior and also enjoyed making quilt patches for world relief for many years. Surviving relatives include four sisters, Anna Isch, Leona Schwartz, Alice Schwartz and Josephine Schwartz, all of Bluffton; and three brothers, Sylven Gerber and Floyd Gerber, both of Bluffton, and Edward (Viola) Gerber of Fort Lauderdale, Fla. Minnie was also preceded in death by three sisters, Helen Gerber, Sarah Kipfer and infant Dorothy Gerber; and five brothers, Gaius, Alvin, Lloyd, Truman and infant Edwin Gerber; and many nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 6, and from 2 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 7, at the Goodwin Memorial Chapel in Bluffton and from 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 8 at the Apostolic Christian Church East. Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at the church with Ed Schwartz and Mark Gerber officiating. Burial is at the Apostolic Christian Cemetery. Preferred memorials are to the Christian Care Retirment Community.
