Melvin M. Fiechter, 91, of Bluffton, went to be with his Lord Friday morning, July 2, 2010, at his rural Bluffton residence. He was born in Wells County on Feb. 25, 1919, to Joel and Lucinda Baumgartner) Fiechter. He married Doris Frauhiger on May 2, 1943, in Bluffton. They were blessed with 67 years of marriage. Melvin was a life long farmer. He raised dairy cows and tomatoes for many years. Melvin loved his Lord and family and had a real zest for life. He never lost his creative and youthful spirit. Surviving relatives, in addition to his wife, include one son, Rick (Deb) Fiechter of St. Cloud, Fla.; four daughters, Pat (Lonnie) Bertsch and Wanda Moser, both of Decatur, Karen (Steve) Aschliman of Craigville and Lou Ann (Bill) Rager of Van Wert, Ohio. 29 grandchildren, 60 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Two brothers, Alvin (Bernice) Fiechter and Wayne (Dorothy) Fiechter, both of Bluffton; and two sisters, Justine Gerber of Bluffton and Gladys Maller of Decatur. Melvin was preceded in death by one brother, Homer Fiechter; two sisters, Ellen Stoller and Devona Gerber; and two sons-in-law, Dwight "Butch" Moser and Mark Moser. The family will receive friends and family from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday, and from 2 to 8 p.m. Monday, at the Goodwin Memorial Chapel, 3220 E. State Road 124 Bluffton. Calling will also be one hour prior to service at the church. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 6, 2010 at the Apostolic Christian Church East in Bluffton. Ministers of the Church will officiate the service. Burial will be in the Apostolic Christian Cemetery in Bluffton. Preferred memorials are to the Family Hospice and Palliative Care.
