Schenkel
November 4, 1920 – July 27, 2016
Maxine L. Schenkel, 95, of Bluffton, passed away early Wednesday morning, July 27, 2016, at her residence.
Born in Wells County on Nov. 4, 1920, to Charles S. and Lydia (Egley) Merkey, Maxine married Dale M. Schenkel in Roanoke on Feb. 24, 1940; he preceded her in death on Sept. 28, 1998.
Maxine graduate from Bluffton High School in 1938 and worked for Farm Bureau Insurance in Bluffton for 15 years. She was a past member of Six Mile Church and Bluffton First Church of the Nazarene. She was also a long time member of the Poplar Grove Home Ec Club.
Survivors include a son, Jerry L. (Tatyana) Schenkel of Pewaukee, WI; a daughter, Marlene L. (Vaughn) Macon of Bluffton; five grandchildren, Brenda Schenkel of Fort Wayne, Tonja (Emil) Pichardo of Chandler, AZ, Andrea Ragland of Reading, PA, Melissa (Brad Trollinger) Gooley of Bluffton, and Greg (Tracie) Schenkel of Holland, MI; 10 great-grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren; a daughter-in-law, Becky Rice of Bluffton; and her best friend, Karen Biggs of Bluffton.
In addition to her parents and husband, Maxine was preceded in death by a son, Keith Schenkel; a brother, Paul Merkey; and a sister, Mildred Strahm.
Visitation will be Friday, July 29, 2016, from 3:00 until 8:00 PM, at Goodwin – Cale & Harnish Memorial Chapel in Bluffton. Services will be held Saturday, at 10:30 AM, at the funeral home, with one hour of visitation prior to the service. Chaplain Chris Thurow of Family LifeCare will officiate. Burial will be at Six Mile Cemetery.
Preferred memorials may be given to Family LifeCare of Berne.
