E. Maxine Rupel, 92, of Markle, passed away Friday, Nov. 20, 2015, at Markle Health and Rehabilitation Center.
She was born June 18, 1923, in Wells County to James J. and Karah S. (Stine) Smith. She married Roscoe O. Rupel Oct. 5, 1940, in Newport, Ky.; he preceded her in death March 16, 1989.
Maxine worked at Kitco Manufacturing for five years, at the Pleasant Inn Restaurant in Uniondale and was a custodian with her husband for years at the Gal-ham Building. She attended Park United Brethren Church and was a member of the Topps Club in Bluffton.
She is survived by two sons, Rev. Frederick (Margaret) Rupel of Columbus, Ga., and Ted Rupel of Fort Wayne; two daughters, Patricia (Steve) Brown of Markle, and Susan Schafer of Homosassa, Fla.; two sisters, Helen Levy of Bluffton and Alice Stewart of Hopkinsville, Ky.; 12 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, James Rupel; two daughters, Joyce Hipsher and Kathryn Gunn; two brothers and five sisters; and one grandchild.
A service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 25, at the Goodwin-Cale & Harnish Memorial Chapel in Bluffton, with Pastor Chad Clark officiating. Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 24, at the funeral home. Burial will be in Prospect Cemetery in Uniondale.
