Max L. Stinson, 89, a resident of Liberty Township, died at 2:52 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 14, 2013, at St. Joseph Hospital in Fort Wayne. Mr. Stinson was a lifelong farmer who enjoyed woodworking as a hobby. He was a 1941 graduate of Rock Creek High School and served for several years as a board member of the Wells County Historical Society. He was a member of Wells County Farm Bureau and the First Reformed Church in Bluffton. He was born Oct. 16, 1923, in Wells County, to Russell L. Stinson and Mildred Freds Stinson. He married Jane M. Maddux Oct. 22, 1949, in Bluffton; she died July 4, 1993. He married Juanita L. Coleman Aug. 27, 1994, in Yoder; she died July 9, 2000. Survivors include a brother, Richard L. (Carolyn Ann) Stinson of Bluffton; a nephew, Keith (Ashley) Stinson of Bluffton; a niece, Kim (Luke) Leas of Bluffton; eight great-nieces and great-nephews, Alexa Stinson, Zachery Stinson, Brittany Stinson, Madison Stinson, Spencer Copeland, Hunter Copeland, Walker Copeland, and Rusty Stinson; and a great-great-niece, Sophia Copeland. He is also survived by a companion, Susan Dunn. In addition to his parents, his first wife, and his second wife, he was preceded in death by a son, Michael Stinson, on March 29, 1981. He was also preceded in death by a nephew, Rodney Stinson. Calling will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Goodwin-Cale and Harnish Memorial Chapel. Services will be held at the funeral home at 10:30 a.m. Saturday with Dr. Bryson E. Bell officiating. Burial will be at the Six Mile Cemetery.
