Mary A. Uptgraft, 89, formerly of Nottingham Township, passed away at 1:25 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 18, 2013, at Heritage Pointe of Warren. Mary was born Sept. 9, 1924, in Wells County, to William "Dail" and Ethel O. Jarrett Bulger. She married Weisell Upgraft in Bryant, Ind., July 8, 1944; he preceded her in death May 19, 1986. She was a homemaker and partnered with her husband on the family farm, in Nottingham Township, where they raised their four children. She had also worked at both the Wells Community Hospital and Caylor-Nickel Clinic in administrative work. Mary graduated from Bluffton High School in 1942, and was a member of the First Baptist Church. She was a member of the Home Economics Club, was a volunteer with American Red Cross and helped with elections at the election polls. Survivors include three daughters, Jan (Doug "Buck") Beaty of Anderson, Sheila (Mike) Zimmerman of Brazil, and Laura Chaney of Greenwood; a son, James (Denise) Uptgraft of McCordsville; nine grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by a grandson, Kip Beaty, and siblings, Jane A. Schoeff, Roger Bulger, Tom Bulger, Bill Bulger, and Bob Bulger. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 22, at Goodwin-Cale & Harnish Memorial Chapel with Gerald O. Moreland officiating. Calling hours are from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 21, at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service at the chapel on Sunday. Burial will be at Alberson Cemetery.
