Mary Etta Blessing, 95, of rural Bluffton, passed away Friday morning, Oct. 18, 2019, at Markle Health & Rehabilitation Center.
Born in Rockcreek Township on July 30, 1924, to Homer and Eulalia (Lesh) McElhaney, Mary Etta married Douglas B. Blessing in Wells County on Aug. 22, 1943. Doug preceded her in death on Jan. 9, 2011.
A 1942 graduate of Rockcreek High School, Mary Etta was a member of Uniondale United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday School and sang in the choir for many years. She was also involved with the ladies group, United Methodist Women.
Mary Etta was a homemaker and member of Better Homes Home Ec. Club for many years. She enjoyed writing poetry and would write poems for every special occasion. More than anything, she enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.
Survivors include two daughters, Donna Geisman and Elaine (Larry) McAfee, both of Bluffton; grandson, Brent (Paula) McAfee; four granddaughters, Lora (Dave) DeVoe, Beth (Terry) Herrell, Doris (Trent) Prough, and Amy (Jason) Horne; and 11 great-grandchildren, Ben (Tiffany) DeVoe, Kale and Sara DeVoe (fiancé Peter Gegg), Jake, Luke, and Zack Herrell, Gabe and Ethan Prough, and Aubree, Mallory, and Lane Horne. She is also survived by a special part of her family, George (Barbara) Keplinger of Markle.
In addition to her husband and parents, Mary Etta was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Mike Geisman.
Visitation will be Tuesday, Oct. 22, 2019, from 3:00 until 7:00 PM, at Goodwin – Cale & Harnish Memorial Chapel in Bluffton. Services will be Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2019, at 10:30 AM, at the Uniondale United Methodist Church, with one hour of visitation prior to the service at the church. Pastor Karen Ottjes will officiate. Burial will follow at Horeb Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to Uniondale United Methodist Church or the Wells County Public Library.
