Martha A. Mugg, 89, Bluffton, died at 10:04 p.m. Tuesday, March 10, 2009, at the Bluffton Regional Medical Center. Mrs. Mugg had been a Wells County residence since 1941. She served as a receptionist for Drs. Panos, Meade, and Hamilton for 10 years and for Drs. Scott and VanWinkle for 25 years. She was a member of the Psi Iota Xi sorority, the Busy Bees (formerly the Progressive Home Ec Club), and was active in a Bible study group. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and the Altar Sodality. She was a volunteer at the Bargain Hut and at Christian Care. She was born Oct. 2, 1919, in Brookston, Ind., to Manford Beeker and Dena Coopman Beeker. She married John K. Mugg May 10, 1941, in Lafayette; her husband died Sept. 25, 1999. Survivors include two daughters, Judy Mugg of Warsaw and Becky Shady of Glendale, Ariz.; a son, Steve (Rita) Mugg of Monroe; three grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. Maxine Frey of Lafayette. Calling will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Goodwin Memorial Chapel. A prayer vigil will be observed at 4:30 p.m. Friday. There will be additional calling from 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph Catholic Church. A Mass of celebration will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Father Dale Bauman officiating. Burial will be at the Six Mile Cemetery. Preferred memorials are to the Wells County Foundation or to the Christian Care Retirement Community.
