Lucille Steffen, 87, of Berne, passed away at 9:30 a.m. Monday, July 30, 2012, at her residence. She was born June 25, 1925, in Wells County, to Louis F. Baumgartner and Ida M. Meyer Baumgartner. She married Norman E. Steffen, May 20, 1945, at the Apostolic Christian Church East in Bluffton; he preceded her in death on Nov. 1, 1961. Mrs. Steffen worked for the majority of her life on the farm, until getting a job at Keebler's, where she retired after 20 years of service. She was also a caregiver for many years after her retirement. Surviving relatives include two sons, Terry W. (Gloria) Steffen of Bluffton and Ted L. Steffen of Berne; a daughter, Judy M. Isch of Berne; a sister, Mabel R. Moser of Bluffton; and three grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, four stepgrandchildren and eight step-great-grandchildren. Mrs. Steffen was also preceded in death by a son-in-law, Donald Gene Isch; one daughter-in-law, Rose Marie Steffen; and three brothers, Roger R., Harry E., and (infant) Ervin L. Baumgartner. Per the request of Lucille, a private family graveside service was held at 9 a.m. this morning, July 31, at the Apostolic Christian Cemetery in rural Bluffton with Steve Frauhiger officiating. Preferred memorials are to the Bluffton-North Apostolic Christian Church Memorial Fund. The Goodwin Memorial Chapel in Bluffton is in charge of arrangements.
