Obituary

Leo B. Snider (86) died Tuesday at 10:05 am December 13, 2011 at the Brethren Retirement Community, Greenville, Ohio. For most of his life, Leo and his wife of 63 years, Rose Ella (nee Fair), resided in Mercer County, Fort Recovery, Ohio, raising a family of 5 children and owning and operating the Fort Recovery Hardware. In 2000 they moved to Greenville, Ohio, Leo was born April 16, 1925 to the late John P Snider and the late Margaret Ann (McCue) Snider in Fort Wayne, Indiana. He and Rose Ella were married on October 30, 1948 in Bluffton, IN and started their family in Fort Wayne before moving to Fort Recovery in 1959. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, John L (Betty), Chicago, ILL; Margaret Ann, Cincinnati, OH; David (Bonnie) Greenville, OH,; Rebecca (Joel) Mills, Corbin, KY; and Cynthia (James) Pratt, Lafayette, IN ; 8 grandchildren and 1 great-grand daughter. He has one surviving sister, Margaret (Frank) Christman of Fort Wayne and is predeceased by two brothers, seven brothers-in-law, three sisters, and six sisters-in-law. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II (1942-1945) serving in the Pacific Theater, Okinawa, Ryukus Island Campaign. His one grandson, Josiah Pratt, currently serves in the the United States Air Force as a Second Lieutenant stationed at F.E. Warren Air Force Base in Cheyenne, WY. Leo was a member of the Mary Help of Christians Knights of Columbus Council 3324, the Fort Recovery American Legion Post 345, a 17 year member of the Fort Recovery Volunteer Fire Department and an early member of the Mary Help of Christians Cemetery Board under the late Father George Heinzen. Many will recall his willingness to help promote community life in Fort Recovery and his parish. There were the live Christmas trees on top of the hardware, the balloons for kids at the Jubilee, the home made float for the town's Bicentennial celebration, serving Mass on the weekdays, and counting the Sunday Collection with the Monday regulars. The Snider Family will receive friends and family from 1:00 - 6:00 pm Sunday for calling at the Brockman-Boeckman Funeral Home 309 South Wayne St. Fort Recovery, OH. Funeral Mass is 10:30 a.m. Monday, at Mary Help of Christians Church 403 Sharpsburg Road Fort Recovery, OH to be concelebrated by the Reverends Paul Wohlwend, James Dugal, and Tom Beischel, all of St Charles Center, Carthagena. Burial will follow at the St Mary's Catholic Cemetery, where military honors will be conducted by the Fort Recovery American Legion. The American Legion prayer service will held at 5:45 pm and Knights of Columbus prayer service at 5:50 pm both Sunday at the Brockman-Boeckman Funeral Home Ft Recovery, OH. In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to the St. Mary's Cemetery Fund in care of the funeral home.
