Obituary

Lawrence Joseph Henry, 75, of Bluffton, passed away Monday, Aug. 4, 2014, at his residence in Bluffton. Larry was born July 10, 1939, in Steubenville, Ohio, to Louis and Margaret Ighnat Henry. He attended Steubenville Catholic Central High School and was a proud graduate of the University of Dayton, where he received a bachelor of science degree in accounting and associate degree in engineering. Larry began his career in the credit department at Westinghouse in Pittsburgh, Penn. He continued working in that industry throughout his career with tenures at Hillenbrand Industries (Batesville), Franklin Electric (Bluffton) and Slater Steels (Fort Wayne). In his retirement years, Larry enjoyed driving cars for the Indiana Auto Auction in Fort Wayne. Larry was very dedicated to his community, where he was a member of the Weirton, W. Va. Moose Lodge 688 (where he served as governor), Bluffton Elks Lodge and American Legion Post 111 and the Knights of Columbus. Larry was an active member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Bluffton, where he served as an usher. Larry had a passion for sports only shared by a few. He could often be found on the Parlor City Country Club golf course competing for quarters with his good friends, battling all comers in card games and walking the sidelines of the Norwell Knights football and basketball games - years after his children had graduated, to the possible dismay of many of the referees. His sports loyalties extended beyond his beloved Flyers, Buckeyes and Steelers to the alma maters of his children and in-laws - as evidenced by his large collection of university embossed hooded sweatshirts. On Nov. 14, 1964, Larry and Anna Mae Klepack Henry were married, in Weirton, W. Va.; she survives in Bluffton. Additional survivors include children, Bridget (Louis) Ray of Chicago, Ill., Lori Henry (Mike Driscoll) of San Jose, Calif., and Patrick (Caroline) Henry of Atlanta, Ga.; along with two grandchildren, Norah Margaret and Katherine Eva Henry of Atlanta, Ga.; one brother, John (Kathy) Henry of Memphis, Tenn.; and one sister, Marjorie (Harald) Oen of New Albany, Ohio. A mass to celebrate Larry's life (aka "The Great One," as he liked to call himself) will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 7, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Bluffton. Viewing hours are two hours prior to the Mass of Christian Burial, 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the church. Father Francis Chukwuma will officiate. Burial will follow on Friday, Aug. 8, at the Mount Calvary Cemetery in Steubenville, Ohio. The family requests, in lieu of flowers, that memorial gifts be made to the Father Francis Chukwuma Education Fund, 1300 N. Main St., Bluffton, IN 46714. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Goodwin-Cale & Harnish Memorial Chapel, 3220 E. Ind. 124, Bluffton. Friends can send online condolences to the Henry family at www.thegmcfamily.com
