LaVerta M. Schwartz, 85, of Bluffton, passed away at 5:05 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2013, at River Terrace Estates. Born in Jonesboro on June 3,1927, to Floyd and Nora (Froh) Oldfield, she married Hershel A. Schwartz on July 1, 1946, in Zanesville. Her husband survives. A housewife, she graduated from Lafayette Central High School in 1945 and was a member of the First Church of Christ and the Mission Circle at the church. Other survivors include a daughter, Cynthia (James) DeHoff of Markle; a son, Robert (Diana Hook) Schwartz of Warsaw; a sister, Wilma Thompson of Bluffton; and three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, Floyd "Bud" Oldfield. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Feb. 4, at Goodwin-Cale & Harnish Memorial Chapel with Larry Sprinkle officiating. Calling hours there are Sunday from 1 to 6 p.m. and Monday for one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in the Hoverstock Cemetery, Zanesville. Preferred memorials are to the First Church of Christ and Family LifeCare.
