LaVerne A. Ringger, 93, of Berne, died at 10:05 p.m. Monday, April 12, 2010, at Swiss Village. Mr. Ringger was born in rural Berne on Jan. 13, 1917, to Edward and Emma (Rauch) Ringger. He married Rosella M. Frauhiger in Bluffton on May 17, 1941; she survives. Mr. Ringger was a farmer, and after he retired he worked for Gerber Brothers' Super Value. He served on the board of directors of Swiss Village for 14 years. He was a member of the Apostolic Christian Church. He served as a Sunday School superintendant at the church and taught Sunday School. He also served as a church trustee. Other surviving relatives include one son, Art (Suzanne) Ringger of Greenville, S.C.; three granddaughters, Allison (Chris) Koepper, Tracy (Ben) Peterson and Emily (David) Ratliff; and seven great-grandchildren. Mr. Ringger was preceded in death by one sister, Amelia Heyerly. Calling hours will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday, April 15, at the Goodwin Memorial Chapel in Bluffton and from 9:30 a.m. Friday, April 16, at the Apostolic Christian Church East. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, at the church with Edward Schwartz and Ron Kipfer officiating. Burial is at Apostolic Christian Cemetery. Preferred memorials are to Swiss Village.
