Laurin L. Bertsch, 95, of Bluffton, was welcomed into the loving arms of our Lord and Saviour on Tuesday, March 15, 2011. Mr. Bertsch was born in Adams County on Feb. 5, 1916, to Samuel and Rosa (Minger) Bertsch. He married Lillian Kaehr in Bluffton on Feb. 25, 1945; she preceded him in death on Aug. 27, 1996. Mr. Bertsch was a lifelong resident of Adams and Wells counties. He served in the U.S. Army from 1941 to 1945, during World War II. He retired from Franklin Electric in 1978 after 25 years of service. He was a member of the Apostolic Christian Church and a volunteer at Caylor Nickel Clinic for years. He was a great Christian example to all who knew him and he will not soon be forgotten. Surviving relatives include two brothers, Walter Bertsch of Bluffton and Oscar (Sylvia) Bertsch of Decatur; and one sister, Gladys Lantz of Bluffton. Mr. Bertsch was also preceded in death by six brothers, Herman, Leonard, Melvin, Jay, Harve and Robert Bertsch; and one sister, Beulah Schwartz. Calling hours will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 16, at the Goodwin Memorial Chapel in Bluffton and from 9:30 a.m. Thursday, March 17, at the Apostolic Christian Church East. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, at the church, with Phil Stettner and Dan Pfister officiating. Burial is at Apostolic Christian Cemetery. American Legion Post 111 will assist with military graveside rites. Preferred memorials are to the Christian Care Retirement Community.
