Laurel D. Clark, 88, of Bluffton, died at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, July 3, 2011 at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne. Born in West Terra Haute, Ind. on July 12, 1922 to Charles M. and Mary E. (Brown) Clark, he married Laura M. Ferbur on Sept. 4, 1943 in Washington D.C.; she survives. Mr. Clark was a graduate of Maryland Park High School. He was a retired Teamsters Union truck driver; he drove for the F.J. Boutell company out of Detriot for 15 years delivering new Cadillac cars. He received the One Million Mile Accident Free award and many other safe driving awards. He has been a member of the First Church of Christ in Bluffton the past 10 years and was a former elder of his church in Michigan and Florida. Survivors include two daughters, Lorraine (Jim) Thompson of Jacksonville, Texas and Joyce Szablinski of Las Cruces, N.M.; six grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Ellen Lindsey in 2007; and was the last of his family, having been also preceded in death by four brothers, Durward, Cleo, Keith and Carroll, and one sister, Timotea Curtis. Services will be held Saturday, July 9, at 11 a.m. at the First Church of Christ in Bluffton with Larry Sprinkle officiating. There will be no visitation. Preferred memorials are to the First Church of Christ Building Fund.
