Kenneth M. Austin, 70, of Bluffton, died at 7:04 p.m. Saturday, May 29, 2010, at the Bluffton Regional Medical Center. Mr. Austin was retired from the Bluffton-Harrison Metropolitan School District, where he had worked for 23 years as a janitor and in service/maintenance. He was a 1959 graduate of Dunkirk High School. He was a member of the Epworth United Methodist Church, where he served as a trustee. He was a Navy veteran, serving from 1956 to 1962. He was a member of American Legion Post 111 in Bluffton. Mr. Austin was born Dec. 4, 1939, in Dunkirk, to Johnny Austin and Eva P. Horan Austin. He married Carol Sue Hartman April 10, 1960, in Redkey; his wife died Dec. 30, 2008. He was engaged to Karen Cahoon, who survives. Also surviving are a son, Rev. Stephen W. (Sherry) Austin of Pendleton; four daughters, C. Marie (Tom) Nunley of Ossian and Sarah (Alan) Shupert, Rebecca J. Mygrant, and Rachel (Randy) Grover, all of Bluffton; 11grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren; a brother, Johnny F. (Carol Ann) Austin Jr. of Hartford City; and a sister, Ruth Ann Horton of Sturgis, Mich. Calling will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Goodwin Memorial Chapel in Bluffton. There will be additional calling from 9 to 10 a.m. Thursday at the Epworth United Methodist Church. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at the church with Pastor Richard Frederick and Tony Garton officiating. Burial will be at the Six Mile Cemetery, where military services will be performed by U.S. Navy personnel and members of American Legion Post 111.
