Obituary

John D. Thompson, 60, Keystone, died at 4:17 a.m. Monday, Jan. 5, 2009, at the Bluffton Regional Medical Center. Mr. Thompson was a mechanical engineer at Franklin Electric, retiring in 2002 after 29 years of employment. He was a 1966 graduate of Bluffton High School and a 1983 graduate of Indiana-Purdue Fort Wayne. He was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War, serving from 1968 to 1971. He was a member of American Legion Post 111. He was an avid golfer and Harley- Davidson rider and was a fisherman for many years. He was born Nov. 30, 1948, in Ashland, Ky., to John M. and Louise Thompson. His mother and stepfather, Louise and Tom Sawyer, survive and reside in Bluffton. He married Connie L. Boxell Nov. 9, 2005, in New Mexico; his wife survives. Also surviving are three daughters, Carmen (Todd) Allen of Indianapolis, Erica (Charles) Baller of Bluffton, and Rachel Thompson of Berne; a stepson, Clint (Maryah) Boxell of Geneva; three stepdaughters, Amber (Jaime) Early of Bluffton and Laci Boxell and Haley Archbold, both of Keystone; four grandchildren; two brothers, Steven (Cheryl) Thompson and Paul (Victoria) Thompson, both of Huntington; and two sisters, Deb (Rodney) Mossburg of Liberty Center and Tammy Sumwalt of Geneva. There will be no calling. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the Goodwin Memorial Chapel with Pastor Don Marlowe officiating. Burial will be at the Mossburg Cemetery at Liberty Center. Graveside military rites will be performed by the U.S. Army in conjunction with the American Legion Post 111.
