J. Thomas Goodwin, 87, of Fort Wayne, died at 7:30 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2012, at St. Anne's Home in Fort Wayne. Mr. Goodwin was born in Fort Wayne on Oct. 16, 1924, to Pierce A. and Elizabeth (Schmitt) Goodwin. He married Mary Jane Bear; she preceded him in death on July 15, 2011. Surviving relatives include one son, Robert (Tami) Goodwin of Fort Wayne; one daughter, Linda (Melvin) Willsey of St. Louis, Mo.; one brother, Ross Goodwin of North Fort Myers, Fla.; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Mr. Goodwin was also preceded in death by one son, John T. Goodwin; and two brothers, Paul and Carl Goodwin. Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 2, at the D.O. McCombs Pine Valley Chapel in Fort Wayne. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Fort Wayne. Burial is at Highland Park Cemetery in Fort Wayne, with graveside rites by the American Legion. The Goodwin Memorial Chapel in Bluffton is in charge of arrangements.
