John R. Gaskill, 64, of Fort Wayne, a former resident of Bluffton, passed away at 6:50 p.m. Monday, May 21, 2012, at the Visiting Nurse and Hospice Home in Fort Wayne. Mr. Gaskill worked for the Bluffton-Harrison Metropolitan School District for more than 20 years as a custodian. He and his former wife, Rosemary, owned and operated the Bluffton Janitor Service for 24 years. In his later years, he enjoyed spending time remodeling homes. He also assisted with the demolition efforts of the volunteer group Beautifying Blackford County. He was born Sept. 21, 1947, in Wells County, to Harry M. Gaskill and Ruth C. Nuckoles Miller. His mother survives in Liberty Center along with her fiance, Art Ramseyer. Additional survivors include a daughter, Cheryl Gaskill of Fort Wayne; a son, Joseph Gaskill of Columbus; four grandchildren, Johanna Basinski-Gaskill, Wesley Basinski-Gaskill, Ashtain Gaskill, and Kyle Gaskill; a great-grandchild, Benjamin Pedigo; three sisters, Patricia (Rex) Holloway of Poneto, Mary Alice Osborn of Shelburn, and Connie Snyder of Indianapolis; and three brothers, Harold (Leslie) Gaskill of Bluffton, Bobby (Donna) Miller of Dunkirk, and Fred Miller of Pennville. He is also survived by best friends Steve Cotton and Josh Dunifan. He is also survived by his friend and former wife Rosemary (Bill) Elliott, who resides in Bluffton. He is also survived by his son Joseph's former wife, Pamela Gaskill, of Columbus. A memorial service for family and friends will be held at a later time. Preferred memorials are to the family.
