John D. Fiechter, 77, of Ossian, died at 4:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 28, 2009, at his residence. Mr. Fiechter was born in Wells County on March 21, 1932 to John J. and Lydia A. Gerber Fiechter. He marriedShirley A. Gerber in Latty, Ohio on Aug. 5, 1956;she survives. Mr. Fiechter was a lifetime Wells County farmer. He served in the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1955, and was a member of the Apostolic Christian Church. Other surviving relatives include three sons, Steve (Fonda) Fiechter of Craigville, Tim (Vicki) Fiechter of Bluffton and Stan L. Fiechter of Fort Wayne; two daughters, Tami Fiechter of Ossian and Tricia (Chad) Coppess of Mears, Mich,; two brothers, Gerald (Eunice) Fiechter of Craigville and Dale (Doris) Fiechter of Bluffton; four sisters, Irene Reinhard, Mildred (Bill) Neuenschwander, Doris (Charles) Neuenschwander and Lillian (Walter) Bertsch, all of Bluffton; and eight grandchildren. Mr. Fiechter was also preceded in death by one brother and three sisters. Calling hours will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, and from 1 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Goodwin Memorial Chapel in Bluffton, and one hour prior to services at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Apostolic Christian Church East with Ron Kipfer and John Reinhard officiating. Burial is at the Apostolic Christian Cemetery, in Bluffton. Preferred memorials are to the Family Hospice and Palliative Care and Christian Care Retirement Center.
