Burroughs

John Vachon Burroughs, 73, of Decatur, passed away Tuesday afternoon, May 22, 2018, at his residence.
John was born in Bluffton on January 24, 1945, to John H. and Patricia J. (Vachon) Burroughs. He married Leslie "Diane" Kahn in Bluffton on March 23, 1985; she survives.
After graduating from Decatur Catholic High School, John joined the United States Navy and served during the Vietnam War from 1965 until 1967. He worked at General Electric in Decatur and later in Ft. Wayne for 30 years, until his retirement. He then worked part-time for Tri-Tec Systems, LLC in Decatur for a few years. He was a member of the American Legion Adams Post 43 of Decatur and a past member of the VFW and the Fraternal Order of the Eagles Lodge in Decatur.
John was a Notre Dame football fan and loved auto racing and riding his moped. He was a big sports fan and especially enjoyed attending his grandchildren's baseball games. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family.
In addition to his wife, John is survived by his daughter, Yvonne (Chris) Cook of Ft. Wayne; his son, Bryant Burroughs of Decatur; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; and a sister, Nancy (Lincoln) Miller of Decatur.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be Friday, May 25, 2018, from 2:00 until 8:00 PM, at Goodwin – Cale & Harnish Memorial Chapel in Bluffton. Services will be held Saturday morning, May 26th, at 11:00 AM, at the funeral home, with one hour of visitation prior to the service. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Bluffton with military graveside rites provided by the American Legion Post 111 of Bluffton in conjunction with the United States Navy honor guard.
Memorial contributions may be made to Visiting Nurse.
