Jeannine Engle, 97, of Rockford, passed away Sunday afternoon, August 30, 2026, at her residence.
Jeannine was born in Berrien County, MI, on February 11, 1929, to Francis E. and Eunice “Ruth” (Johnson) Shull. She married Guy Edward Engle at the Rockford Seventh-day Adventist Church on June 30, 1957. He preceded her in death on March 23, 2017.
A 1947 graduate of Indiana Academy in Cicero, IN, Jeannine then graduated from Andrews University in Berrien Springs, MI, in 1951, with a bachelor’s degree in secondary education. She taught high school typing, shorthand, and accounting from 1951 until 1957 at Battle Creek Academy and Cedar Lake Academy in Michigan, and then at Broadview Academy in La Fox, IL, from 1964 until 1978. In 1982, Guy and Jeannine moved back to Rockford to care for her elderly parents, where they would remain through their retirement years.
Jeannine was a member of Markle Chapel Hill Seventh-day Adventist Church. For many years she was involved with the Pathfinder Club, which is a spiritual-centered recreational activity program designed for young people. In addition to being involved with her church, Jeannine also enjoyed sewing, studying genealogy, and traveling with her family, especially taking vacations to historical places.
Survivors include two daughters, Linda L. (James) Fore and Sally A. Seymour, both of Rockford; a son, Daniel L. Engle of Spokane, WA; seven grandchildren, Edward (Kayla) Davis, Jason (Melissa) Davis, Susan (Eric) Willis, Ashley (Danny) Barnes, Kelly (Mike) Larsen, and Amber and Zachariah Engle; along with seven great-grandchildren, Liam Davis, Logan and Sophia Davis, Tristan, William, and Max Willis, and Tidus Barnes.
In addition to her parents and husband, Jeannine was preceded in death by two brothers, Vivion and Elwin Shull; a son-in-law, Kenny Seymour; and a daughter-in-law, Nancy (Driscol) Engle.
There are no public services planned at this time. Private family burial will be held at Friends Cemetery in Rockford.
