Jean L. Sturgeon, 83, of rural Bluffton, died at 2:28 a.m. Tuesday, May 1, 2012, at the Christian Care Retirement Community in Bluffton. Mrs. Sturgeon was a housewife who had lived on her family's farm since 1953. She was a talented homemaker and a proud mother and grandmother. She participated in the J.I.O. Circle, Bible study, the church choir, and Women's Fellowship at First Reformed Church in Bluffton. She was a 1946 graduate of Bluffton High School. She was a member of the Poplar Grove Home Extension Club and served as an officer for the club. She was born Oct. 24, 1928, in Bluffton, to Floyd Spade and Leah Schwartz Spade. She married Robert K. Sturgeon Nov. 6, 1948, in Bluffton; her husband preceded her in death Nov. 22, 2005. Survivors include two sons, James L. (Carol) Sturgeon and Stephen R. (Linda) Sturgeon, both of Bluffton; a daughter, Beth (Bryan) Zukowski of Glenwood Springs, Colo.; two grandsons, Matthew Sturgeon and Aaron Sturgeon; and two sisters, Pat (Jon) Turner and Mary Jane Taylor, both of Bluffton. She was preceded in death by her step-mother, Mable (Sheets) Spade, and her brother, William M. Spade. Calling will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Goodwin Memorial Chapel. There will be additional calling from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Friday at the First Reformed Church in Bluffton. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the First Reformed Church with Dr. Bryson E. Bell officiating. Burial will be at the Bethel Cemetery. Preferred memorials are to Family LifeCare in Berne.
